sharing some favorites

I am in awe of all the talented artists who sell their creations on Etsy. There are so many amazing and beautiful things. I thought I'd share some of MY favorites with you.

I love, love, love this necklace....maybe because I love, love, love the beach! Someday I will live near the ocean but until then...

The shop is Cinnamon Sticks. Many of their items can be personalized...names, initials, etc. All items are unique and beautifully crafted.

I WISH I could paint. I love lots of different styles.

This bloom is from the Etsy shop, Suze. Check out her shop and you will find a huge variety of artwork. Great stuff. Fun stuff. The poli sci part of me LOVES the Nixon sketch! Go take a peek! :)

More jewelry. I can't help it...I love jewelry that is NOT cookie-cutter, mass-produced stuff.

I'm sure you've heard of fused dichroic glass. I have no idea how it's made, but the colors are SO vibrant. While the photography in this shop, CCValenzo, is wonderful, I have NEVER seen a photograph that can truly capture the amazing colors of this type of jewelry.

Last, but definitely not least, of my list today is the artwork from LucySweetLucy.

I can't really even find the words to express how much I LOVE this. The style, the colors, the whimsical element. Just love it all! :) It reminds me of the movie, The Break Up. Remember when Jennifer Aniston's character was showing pieces of art to the really cute guy (sorry, don't remember his name). He didn't know much about art and wasn't sure what to buy. She told him that you shouldn't buy a piece of art unless you HAVE to HAVE it (or something like that....I'm bad at quoting movies!). Anyway, that's how I feel about this piece. It just draws me in.

Christmas is coming up and I have a challenge for you. Before you head to the "big box" stores with your shopping list...please consider buying your gifts this year from independent artists and crafters. There are lots of options for buying handcrafted items. Etsy is a great online source but you can also find some amazing things at local craft shows and consignment shops.

The best things about buying handmade? Unique and personalized gifts...not to mention you're supporting independent business owners....not the corporate giants!

More Back-to-School

So cool...my Preschool scrapbook was featured on an Etsy Treasury list. Check it out...along with all the other fun, funky back-to-school goodies. Hurry though because treasury lists are temporary and don't last long! Of course you can always find my Etsy shop here.

In other EXCITING news... a picket fence life is one of the companies featured in 4BabyAndMom's Back to School Bash! If you've never visited the 4BabyAndMom blog, you need to head on over there. You will find lots of wonderful parenting tips and so many amazing give-aways! In fact, the Back to School Bash will feature a give-away from ME! I can't wait to see what other goodies will be offered.

Save the date, mark your calendars, tie a little string around your finger...whatever it takes to remind you to stop by 4BabyAndMom during this event. August 10-21. :)

And....since summer is not-quite-over yet...and you still may have some summer vacation pictures lying around.... check out this....

It's HUGE! Well, maybe not huge...but you will think so when you start filling it up with your photos and memories. 4x6 photos won't have to be cropped AND the 6 (yes I said 6!) journaling cards that are tucked in the pockets are FIVE inches by SEVEN inches! So much room to write down your memories. And, of course, the pockets are big enough to hold all those goodies you tend to collect on trips.

Okay...I WAS going to post more pictures of it....BUT me and Blogger seem to be at odds this morning SO...just click on the photo and it will take you to my Etsy shop where you can find the rest of the images. There are also a few more vacation books to choose from. :)

That's all for now. Enjoy the day!

Birthday Memories in a Scrapbook

As if Back-t0-School doesn't make things crazy enough, we also throw in a few birthdays. We have lots of family birthdays and anniversaries in the month of August...but 2 that are extra special. Our girls. They turn 18 next week! Wow! Not sure how that happened. In my mind they are still babies...or at least it seemed like they were yesterday!

So...what do you think of the BIGGER paper bag scrapbook? This one was made with 7 paper bags that are NOT folded so you get more scrapping space! And, obviously more pockets to hold even more journaling cards and memories.
More details later......
Have a fun day!
