When people
show you
who they are,
believe them.

Sometimes this can be the hardest lesson to learn. And sometimes we require several tries to figure it out. But hopefully, eventually we get it.

This is one of the quotes in the opening pages of life is a verb by Patti Digh. I have wanted this book for a reallllly long time and my wonderful son bought it for me for Christmas this year. I’m not sure why I put off buying it. Maybe I thought it would push me to make a change I wasn’t ready for or think about things I wasn’t prepared to deal with…but it kept getting pushed farther down on my wish list. Some other book always seemed to win out. So, for Christmas, like I said, I received this from my son…plus Patti’s other book, Creative is a Verb. Still shying away from actually reading life is a verb, I started with the creative one. Last night I finally picked up life is a verb and dug in. I’m taking it slow…I want to savor it. The rest of the title is: 37 Days to Wake Up, Be Mindful, and Live Intentionally. I’ll let you know how I like it. Have you read it? What do you think of it?
Patience young grasshopper.
I never saw the 1970’s Kung Fu series that it came from, but I often repeat this to myself. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really help. When I finally decide what I want…I want it NOW. :)
Dreaming of this today…but I know there’s lots to be done between now and then so it’s “off to work I go”….IF you can call scrapbooking “work”! I’m still trying to get my inventory built back up in my shop. Hopefully I’ll get a lot accomplished this weekend since my girls have gone back to school. Fewer distractions! I love, love, love spending time with my kids when they’re home…but I also crave “alone time”! I guess it’s a good balance right now with them in college and just popping home occasionally. It’s fun to see how excited they are to come home…and then just as excited to get back to their “real lives”.
If you haven’t stopped by my Etsy shop lately, here are a few things that have been added…
There are no mistakes.
The events we bring upon ourselves,
no matter how unpleasant,
are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn;
whatever steps we take,
they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go.
- Richard Bach
Best friends are awesome, right?! Sometimes we luck out and have the same best friend our whole life…but sometimes friends come and go…and that’s okay too. I’m sure you’ve probably heard this explanation before…but it’s always a good reminder….
People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.
When someone is in your life for a reason, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.
Then people come into your life for a season, because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons: things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
I’m still in the process of trying to restock my Etsy shop. I can’t remember a time when it’s been this low on inventory…but hey, a fresh start, right?! This Best Friends book is my most recent addition. I’m hoping to add a bunch of books this week so stay tuned. I have some NEW, never before seen in my shop items almost ready to list too!! Oh, and as always….custom orders happily accepted through email (apicketfencelife at gmail dot com) or through the “convo” feature in my Etsy shop.
I know I don’t have a button on here (yet)…but you can follow me on Twitter now too!
Oh…and for those of you who are counting (LIKE ME!)….SPRING is 21 days away…… :)
